21 April 2026

Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia

Kharitah, the developer of a grid-based digital infrastructure layer for cities and regions, has received recognition presented by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for its work in designing digital public infrastructure of future cities.

The recognition was presented as part of the Global Initiative on AI and Virtual Worlds, a high-level multistakeholder platform launched by the ITU, the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC), and Digital Dubai. The initiative is supported by more than 70 international partners and focuses on advancing digital public infrastructure to support inclusive, resilient, and sustainable urban development.

The company presented its work in the first engagement of its kind for the Citiverse, where international organizations, cities, and academic institutions came together to explore interoperable, inclusive, and human-centric digital environments. During the engagement, Kharitah introduced its Digital Civic Grid, a grid-based infrastructure model designed to enable global civic interoperability. The model provides a unified, horizontal infrastructure layer that supports seamless data exchange and the deployment of digital services across cities and regions.

The engagement was co-organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC), alongside international organizations, city partners, and academic institutions, including the World Bank Group, UN Tourism, OASC, and the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization.
